The Project
RF Meters is an innovative smart metering solution that utilizes wireless technologies. The problem addressed by RF Meters through their WiSmartM (Wireless Smart Metering) solution is the various challenges faced by current solutions in ensuring reliable communication that occurs every fifteen minutes or over-the-air software upgrades. Transilvania DIH played a crucial role in the development of this solution by facilitating the company’s access to technical and business know-how, as well as providing funding of 60,000 EUR.
The innovation and value brought by RF Meters lie in its technology independence and its applicability in various scenarios such as electricity, water, or gas. The developed technical solution seamlessly integrates into state-of-the-art smart metering infrastructures and consists of a device attached to a smart meter, collecting data and transmitting it to a gateway using wireless communication protocols. This versatile solution caters to both B2B and B2C scenarios across a wide range of industries.

The analysis
The collaboration between RF Meters and Transilvania Digital Innovation Hub materialized not only in the provision of services but also in the development of demonstrators, specifically an experiment and a business development plan. The first stage involved defining objectives, specifications, and KPIs to be pursued in the project, culminating in the development experiment of a communication protocol module, which entailed a software component. In the second stage, the hardware and software elements were integrated, and a roadmap for solution implementation and business development was elaborated. The business consulting services provided by Transilvania Digital Innovation Hub facilitated the identification of market opportunities, the design of the value proposition, and the contribution of stakeholders from the DIH ecosystem in the development and implementation process of the experiment.
Go-to-market strategy, product positioning, and strategy were central elements of the services provided by Transilvania DIH. Through this experiment, the entrepreneur had access to experts who facilitated the development of a plan to attract funding from public and private sources for product and business development. Concurrently with the identification of funding opportunities, Transilvania DIH experts facilitated the integration of the RF Meters solution into other projects in which Transilvania DIH is a member, such as the REFLOW project.
