The digitalization of the public sector begins with understanding the real problems within institutions. Within the TEDIHT project, this step was taken in December 2025, when representatives of over 25 public institutions – city halls, prefectures, hospitals, and other authorities – participated in a working meeting dedicated to identifying the needs and challenges they face in their daily activity.

Based on these discussions, the digital maturity audit, and the consultation tools used within the project, concrete challenges were defined. These challenges form the foundation of the first TEDIHT hackathon, organized under Call 4.

From Identified Problems to Practical Work

The first TEDIHT hackathon marks the transition from analysis to hands on implementation. Starting from challenges already identified together with public administration beneficiaries, the hackathon brings academia into the same process and, in the next stages, company specialists as well.

Within this first hackathon:

  • real challenges from the public sector were launched, such as document management, parking subscription monitoring, or supporting civil servants in their interaction with citizens;
  • the process of forming teams began, with participants set to work on digital solutions over the course of several months;
  • a clear roadmap was outlined: teamwork, applied mentorship, and the presentation of final solutions.

This hackathon is not a 48 hour sprint competition, but a structured process designed to allow time for understanding the problem, testing, and refining solutions.

What Comes Next in the First Hackathon

Following the initial team formation stage, participants will enter an intensive working phase, during which they will:

  • develop the proposed solutions;
  • receive mentorship from academia and company specialists;
  • test and refine their ideas in dialogue with the real needs of public administration.

The entire process will conclude by April 30 with a Demo Day, where the developed solutions will be presented and discussed together with the public institutions involved.

A First Step in a Series of Three

This first hackathon is part of a series of three TEDIHT hackathons organized within the project, all sharing the same objective: transforming real needs from the public sector into practical, applicable digital solutions.
